Thank You John Lewis

As I reflect on losing Elijah Cummings and now John Lewis, I am sad that leadership and voice may be diminished.  I am grateful for their contributions to the values, commitment, and actions to move our country toward the ideals of the constitution written over two hundred years ago.

When I woke up and heard that John Lewis had passed, song lyrics came to my mind.  I heard this song performed by Barbara McAfee, a songwriter and leadership consultant from Minneapolis.  Here are the words as I remember them:

When you were born you cried

And the world rejoiced

Live your life so that when you die

The world cries and you rejoice

I cried and continue to be grateful for what John Lewis contributed to our country.  He stood up, spoke up, and aligned his actions with his words.  We couldn’t have asked for more.

Here is my hope for the future.  I hope that Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Julian & Joaquin Castro, James Clyburn, Amy Klobuchar, Tammy Duckworth, Hakeem Jeffries, Val Demings, Stacey Abrams, etc. will continue their fight for equality and a better country.
